4 Hikers Bridge Math Problem – IQ Question
Question :
In a cold dark night without moonlight, 2 hungry children and 2 elderly hikers
need to cross a bridge to reach the other side for food and shelter.
They only have 1 small candle lantern which can last 17 minutes to lid the way
while crossing the bridge.
At any one time, the bridge can accommodate only 2 person and 1 of them
must be holding on to the candle lantern.
Child A and child B can cross the bridge in 1 min and 2 mins respectively.
Elderly C and elderly D can cross the bridge in 5 mins and 10 mins respectively.
The time required to cross the bridge will be the slower of the 2 person.
E.g. Child B and elderly D will need 10 min to cross the bridge.
How can all the 4 hikers cross the bridge in 17 minutes ?

4 Hikers Bridge Crossing Solution :
Child A and child B cross the bridge first (2 mins)
Child A carry the lantern and returns alone (1 min) [Leaving Child B on the other side of bridge]
Child A pass the lantern to Elderly C and elderly D to cross the bridge (10 mins)
Elderly pass the lantern to child B to return back (2 mins)
Child A and child B cross the bridge together (2 mins)
Whew…., all 4 hikers successfully cross the bridge and head toward the shelter for their dinner.
The next day, the 4 hikers met a farmer trying to cross the river with a Wolf, Goat and Cabbage
